Emperor Liang Repentance Ceremony Day 6 | 梁皇寶懺大法會 第六天

The Emperor Liang Repentance Liturgy is know as “the King of All Repentance” Liturgy. This liturgy has been practiced for thousands of years, with the goal of removing negative karma and attracting positive blessings to oneself and one’s family.

The liturgy was initiated by Emperor Liang 1500 years ago. The late Empress Chi was reborn as a python because of her jealousy and bad karma. She suffered the misfortune of being hungry and bitten by small insects as python body. One day this python appears in the place and begged Emperor Jiang to save her. So Emperor Jiang asked Master Bao Zhi and the monks to assemble the wonderful words from the Lotus Treasury and the names of the Buddhas from the Sutras to perform the 10-scroll repentance liturgy.

After the liturgy was performed, Empress Chi released the python body and became a Devi.

梁皇寶懺又稱慈悲道場懺法，宿有佛教「懺王」的美譽。千百年來，為佛教界所廣為流傳與重視。

寶懺的由來，乃中國南北朝時期，梁武帝的皇后郗氏，因生前嫉妒六宮，常懷瞋心，性情慘毒，損物害人，死後遂墮蟒蛇身，飢窘困迫，遭蟲唼嚙，苦楚難當。一日託夢給梁武帝，哀求武帝救拔離苦。武帝遂邀集寶誌禪師等高僧， 博覽經律，集其懺罪要義，摘錄佛名，採摭佛語，製成懺文十卷，啟建慈悲道場懺法，使郗氏脫蟒身之苦難，往生忉利天。

千百年來，凡虔敬禮拜此寶懺者，皆有「災消吉至，罪滅福生」之感應，亦能資助亡者超生善道、往生淨土等殊勝功德。
