About The Event
Duration: Two terms (A and B), 10 classes per term, a total of 20 classes. Each term can be taken separately.
No prerequisite. Beginners welcome.
This class introduces Chan/Zen meditation and Buddhist teachings. Two fundamental meditation methods are taught: mindfulness of breathing and breath counting. Students are guided step by step through the process of meditating appropriately according to these ancient methods. During the lecture, students will learn the fundamental principles of Buddhism common to all traditions and schools. These principles include causality and karma, the practice of the three refuges and five precepts, the meaning of enlightenment, and the path to enlightenment as demonstrated by the Buddha. We will also explore the Four Noble Truths, the Buddha's first teaching, to understand the path to ending suffering and achieving lasting peace and happiness in life.
